2Class II ball mount 4" drop  Jun 23, 2010
By Robin M. Henderson "Robin"
This was the only type II ball mount with a 4" drop that I could find on Amazon. I was hesitant to order since I did not recognize the manufacturer, but I needed it and could not find one locally. When it got here I noticed that it looked like it was strong enough to do the job, but the finish was of a low quality. The Reese hitch I have (2.5" drop and about the same price) is smooth with a nice paint job that looks like it might be baked on enamel. This Acme hitch had sharp burrs that you could cut yourself on, and appeared to be just painted with black spray paint. The welds looked strong but not very neat. And worst of all it would not fit into my receiver. I compared it to my Reese hitch and noticed that the edges of the Reese were rounded whereas the Acme's were sharp. I took it into the shop, ground down the edges on my grinding wheel, dressed it with a file and then smoothed it out with some steel wool. A fresh coat of black spray paint and it now seems to be working fine. But I should not have to finish the job myself...
