Awesome knife, crummy sheath Feb 08, 2010
By T. kraemer This is a spectacular survival and tactical knife. It has a very robust blade with an excellent Veff serrated cutting section that will saw through just about anything.
The handle is ergonomically shaped to fit really well in your hands. I have large hands and this handle is MUCH better than the handle on the SOG seal pup. The grooves on this handle provide great grip even when covered with mud or other slippery liquids.
The knife is full tang, which means the metal of the blade goes all the way to the end of the knife. This provides several benefits. One is that if the handle is ever destroyed in extreme survival conditions, you could still use the knife effectively. Secondly, it makes the knife stronger because there isn't a "weak spot" where the blade ends and the handle overlaps. Finally, the end of the full tang is a butt that can be used for smashing or for prying things open so you wont damage your blade trying to get away from the zombie hordes.
Now for the bad news. The sheath is weak sauce, which is made all the more obvious by the sheer awesomeness of the knife. So by all means, buy the knife but complain mercilessly about the sheath and maybe CRKT will design a better one out of shame. I would even pay more for a better sheath were that option available....

The Last Knife You Will Ever Own Feb 16, 2010
By Warfare I'm a knife collector and a picky one and I've got knives from all makes. Some are specialized and others are historic collector's items. But among my collection CRKT makes the best. I have Gerber, SOG, Kersaw, Ka-bar, etc. Ka-bar makes some of the best knives and I'd trust my life with one on me, but CRKT is just as good (maybe better) and has some awesome innovations. Here's why I prefer CRKT to Ka-bar. Ka-bar is hard to dull, stays extreamly sharp, but takes some real skill to sharpen. CRKT's are super sharp, stay sharp for a very long time (pretty close to Ka-bar) but are much easier to sharpen.
This knife here is great if you want a fixed blade. It's full tang (blade continues into handle) and has a great grip, trust me you won't drop it. Could be a great diver's knife? I don't know but it still works when wet. You won't go wrong with this knife.
I wanted to rate it 4 3/4 stars, but that's not an option. The sheath sucks pretty bad. You could make one yourself and it'd be better. Everything else fixed blade from CRKT seems to have a much better sheath. They need a one for this knife like they made for their "Sting" knife.
Great knife CRKT!

THIS IS THE ONE! Mar 31, 2010
By Dave Powers I searched along time for a good knife like this! I bought many others before I got this one. This is by far the best!
CONS: - The sheath is an over-engineered joke, throw that in the street.
PROS: - "Soft Tanto" so it won't wear out as easily. - Super slick new serrated. Find the YouTube clip of this being used! - Thick, strong, sharp blade. Factor sharp cuts arm hair. - Top of the line handle. Good grip even when wet. Fits all hand sizes. (Grip is VERY important to me) - Pry-bar/hammer at the butt which is nice so you don't have to damage your blade picking at stupid stuff. - It has a good "blade to handle" ratio which I mean it won't come out of your hands due to leverage. - Full tang of course and it does have some good weight to it cause there is alot of metal here. - Handle is installed with glue and small allen screws so you can work on it if you absolutely had too.
I have LOTS of knives and if I could only grab one knife on the way out the door on doomsday, it WOULD be this one.

Excellent Knife May 12, 2010

I just received this knife today and I will say that they were very expedient with the deliver of this product. All in all, the Knife is gorgeous and just feels comfortable in your hand. The only problem I had with it was the Sheath. I bought this knife as a Tactical knife to but onto my kit (IBA... However you wanna call it). The Sheath itself has the molle webbing in the back. With a little bit of ingenuity you can remove the belt clips and 5-50 cord and weave the cord through your Kit and Sheath for a nice snug fit. Just wish the pouch on the sheath was large enough for a Surefire 6P... I was really hoping that I could not only have a sheath for my knife but also a surefire pouch.
Oh Well... Well with all of the negative comments about the sheath out of the way. As for the knife itself, its is a beauty. The Handle itself flows with the natural posture of your hand and allows for a nice firm grip. The blade itself needed some work but that was to be expected with the shipping. I would strongly recommend you purchase a sharpening stone unless you plan on taking it to a professional knife sharpener. However once the blade is sharpened it is absolutely gorgeous. The slight angle on the serated blades makes cutting with the serrations with ease. After playing with it for awhile and fellow soldiers asking to see it. Numerous fellow soldiers have already placed orders to have this knife.
Being a proud owner of the M16-01T - Designed by Kit Carson (Another CRKT Knife) I have loved the craftsmanship that is put into their knives. The Ultima is just an upgrade to my Kit but I still love the M16-01T and will continue to use it as I have been since my last rotation (Back in 2006). And the Ultima will continue where the M16-10T used to be, by my side in combat.
This is a must have knife for any service member looking for an excellent Tactical Knife to add to their kit.

Solid tactical/survival knife Dec 16, 2010
By Onoku I just received the knife today, so this is a first impression review. I will start with the sheath. I am a soldier, so I purchased the knife to attach (upside down) to my kit. There is paracord attached to the sheath and numerous, very tight, slits in the back for you to weave the cord through. It is a bit of a pain, but you can manage to get the sheath fitting quite snuggly on your kit. It is obvious that more attention was paid in making the sheath more convenient for leg wear than molle gear. The pocket on the front is oriented to be upright if it's on the leg, so it is pretty much useless once you attach it to your kit. Next, the belt loops aren't detachable, so you either have to cut them off or try and weave them through the rest of your molle at the bottom. I don't have room for that on my kit and don't ever plan on wearing it on my leg, so I cut the loops off. The snaps that hold the knife in place are detachable. They hold the knife snuggly, but they make it a bit difficult for quick draw.
Now that I've covered the sheath in detail, on to the knife. Being full tang, it is very sturdy and solid feeling. The pry bar at the bottom is a bit bigger than I expected and that's a good thing. I wasn't sure it would be big enough to really get leverage, but I foresee it being quite functional. The grip is ergonomic, though probably a bit small for those with bigger hands. I have small hands and it is quite comfortable for me. The serrations are nice; I cut through a cardboard box with ease and it made quick work of a rolled up towel (only things I had handy at the time). The blade was sharp out of the box, but not razor sharp. The black finish was glossy which was unexpected. In the picture it looks like more of a matte finish. This isn't necessarily a bad thing unless you are seriously concerned with glare.
Overall, I am pleased with the knife and not so pleased with the sheath. It is worth more than the price paid.
