Rubber Training Rubber Training Recon Tanto

Now you can practice with some of Cold Steel's most popular knife designs, in relative safety, with the rubber training knives. Each has been carefully fashioned to look as realistic as possible so they can be effectively used in solo practice, training drills, disarm drills, and demonstrations and any other activity where you want a reasonably close approximation of realism but not the extreme danger and risk associated with an actual knife. The Santoprene rubber blades are soft enough to prevent the likelihood of most bodily injury. They do however, have a level of firmness that might cause injury to the face or the eyes, so it is recommended that appropriate eye protection or a fencing mask is utilized at all times when using a Cold Steel rubber training knife.Specifications:- Blade Length: 7"- Overall Length: 11 3/4"- Weight: 3.1oz- Blade Thick: 7/16- Blade Length: 7"- Handle: 4 3/4" - Material: Santoprene

5Realistic Training Knife - Highly Recommended  Jun 08, 2010
By C. F. Hill "CFH"
We bought the Cold Steel "Rubber Recon Tanto Training Knife" for practicing disarming moves in TaeKwonDo. This is a replica of Cold Steel 13RTK Recon Tanto Knife, having the same overall length but not weight. Here are my observations:

Pros:
+ Large Size; 11.75" long (7" blade)
+ Good Grip; feels good in the hand, which makes it more realistic for "aggressor"
+ Solid; this is tough material that will hold up well (but see "Misc", below)

Cons:
- Not Balanced; much heavier on blade end

Misc:
* Firm Rubber; this is not very soft or flexible, which makes it great for stand-up fighting but less optimal for ground fighting or take-downs. I would not like to come down on this with it between my ribs and the ground.

This is a great training aid that should last a very long time.

Highly Recommended!

5A great training tool  Sep 09, 2011

I have at least two students that will dive for this one over the K-Bar style knives I have. This is great for practicing slashing, stabbing and it's agile style really makes it a great slasher. Cold Steel products are both durable and fun to train with.

5Appropriate practice knife  Aug 28, 2011
By Citizen John
This plastic knife has the dimensions and look of the real thing, if not the heft. It doesn't feel the same as the real thing because it's so lightweight. You need something like this though if you are sparing with a partner, and such a prop is required in classes that cover knife fighting.

I recommend this item for taking a defense class that includes knife fighting. There's no substitute for practice and physical instruction as we're unlikely to remember technique when needed just from reading a book.

5Unexpected quality  Aug 06, 2011
By Ben
I had ordered this kinfe for use in airsoft gaming and disarm drills and I was very impressed. The handle feels like a real knife handle and the blade is sturdy but will not cause serious injury. Just be sure to wear some eye protection because this can seriously harm the eyes.
