Great sharpener Aug 02, 2011
By John Robben Great product from Lansky. Much more durable than competitors due to its solid brass construction. Handy lanyard hole in the end of the sharpener as well. Diamond rod seems to work fine, does what its supposed to.

Heavy duty built and does the trick Apr 07, 2012
By Pathfinder I have a few other pocket sharpeners like this made by other companies like S&W, and a Smith's Pocket Sharpener. I bought this tool because it looked heavy duty and could survive rolling around behind a pickup truck seat. Boy, I was not let down. This tool is made out of solid brass and has a hefty weight in the hand. The diamond impregnated rod is extra fine and has a channel cut in it for fish hooks which is also good for smoothing corners on sheet metal. The diamond rod fully retracts into the handle and can be firmly locked into the out position which is great because unlike some of the other sharpeners in its class you don't have to worry about the rod popping out or closing on your hand.
Another bonus is the rod is easily removed by unscrewing the butt and sliding it out. I would love to get a spare rod in a coarser rod for sharpening machetes or heavier blades that get nicked with use and have to be smoothed out. This is not for your backpack if you are thinking ultra light, but for a vehicle glove box or for use at work this looks like a good old American design that hasn't changed since the 80's. It has a heavy duty lanyard ring hole on the butt. You can easily thread an idiot line off 550 through it in a larks head knot.
Very happy with this item.

All that is needed for sharpening in the field Dec 26, 2011
By BorntoVenture I carry this to sharpen my knives while out camping, hiking, Search & Rescue, etc. I lost my first one and recently ordered a new one which is even better made than the older model. It also has a groove for sharpening fish hooks when needed. It makes it very easy to keep a razor sharp edge on all of my cutlery, even axes.

Can't go wrong with Lansky Apr 14, 2012
By AceCamper07 My Lansky rod does wonders on all my blades, the only problem with the one I bought is that the rod slips out of the handle. Still works great. Very compact, fairly light (heavy for it's size), fits into any pack or pocket

Decent sharpener Mar 15, 2012
By J Decent sharpening rod, which is very convenient for hiking and camping. Very portable and compact. Very sturdy construction. When i received it and took it out of the package it seemed dirty with some grime on it. Not sure why that was. However, its a good hiking/camping sharpener for the price
