excellent piece of equipment Feb 02, 2009
By Randy Travis I bought this from reading reviews of other owners. This is my first gun vise so I have no experience with others. After putting it together (five minutes - excellent instructions) my first thought was it's a little expensive for a bunch of bolts and plastic. After using it to mount two scopes on two rifles and to bore sight both (the old fashioned way), I was impressed with the thing. It holds the guns securely while protecting the finish. I would recommend it. But not having tried cheaper vises, they may work just as well with less expense.

Great for a non gunsmith Oct 28, 2009

paid about a dollar more than you see now (10-27-2009). Never mounted a scope in my life, left it to the professionals. But I have cleaned a bunch of rifles, pistols and shotguns at the kitchen table. I hate laying a scoped rifle down! I hated even worse trying to clean my over and under by total dis-asemble every time. I have a Ruger 10/22. My daughter loves it and she thought it would be cool to put a scope on it. So I bought an inexpensive scope from Wally world (centerpoint for .22 with red /green light up reticle, which is pretty cool!). Got the Weaver rings for $10.00 at Wally World as well. Enter the Tipton Best Gun Vise! Wow! it works. 1st thing putting it together, about 5minutes of thought and 5 minutes of execution. Not the best directions, just don't drink beer while attempting! Just kidding! Anyway mounted the scope. Great vise for holding gun straight as an arrow. Dual clamps are wonderful at but stock end. Like the picture on the box, I put my over under with the center holder inverted to hold at the bend in the breach for easy cleaning. Just clamp But stock and clean. Warning! because barrels are pointing down, Hoppes or whatever solvent you use will go with gravity. Towel or rag on floor is required. Hope this helps, but I would buy it again in a heart beat!

good but not quite worth the price Dec 17, 2010
By P.C. Thomas This vise is made of very lightweight plastic and I would not describe it as particularly solid. Nonetheless, I haven't had any stability issues. I occasionally have trouble getting the gun just right on the vise. It can be a little awkward. Also, it turns out that I rarely need the vise function that props the splitting part of the gun up. That aspect is only handy for my over under shotgun which I don't use very often and I don't need it all for my rifles or AR. However, I needed something to hold my long guns for cleaning and it does work for that purpose but I'm not sure it's worth it's hefty price tag. Something along the lines of $50 would have been more appropriate. I wish now that I'd simply bought the cheaper ($40) version because my needs would have been just as well met. If you think you'll be cleaning an over/under shotgun a lot then I recommend this vise otherwise you might consider the less expensive model.

Tipton Best Gun Vise Mar 31, 2008
By M. King The transaction was very smooth and no hassle, rating the vise a 4 because of the stock end of the vise clamps are of plastic and flex quite a bit while holding the stock of the weapon in place. It does work well however and would recommend the gun vise to others looking for a good bench vise. Just be aware the stock clamps do flex.

Excellent tool for gun work Apr 08, 2010
By R. Norton The Tipton vise is well thought out, accommodating virtually any size gun and simplifying tasks such as cleaning, mounting hardware, adjusting sights. The only improvement I could suggest is making it easier to clamp the vise onto the workbench when using a sight drift, cleaning with a bore brush, or doing other jobs that require some measure of force to be applied to the firearm.
