Folding Blade Vulcan

The General Electric M61A1 Vulcan is a 6-barrel 20mm cannon of the gatling-type. It fires standard M50 ammunition at 6,000 rounds per minute and is integral part of the armament of modern fighters such as the F-15, F-18 and of course the F-16. Our Vulcan is also formidable with a powerful strength of construction. There is nothing weak about the Vulcan. Take our patented Arc-Lock for example that is tested to over 1000lbs of force at the lock. Or the full steel liners encased in glass reinforced Zytel handles. The blade is a full .155" thick with spear point shape. Most importantly is our new kick deployment of the blade. Press on the back of the blade and the knife comes out fast. Reversible clip, Arc-Lock, double thumb studs make for complete ambidextrous use.Blade 3.5" x .16" Overall Length 8.375" Weight 5.0 oz. Edge Straight Steel VG-10 Handle Zytel Finish Satin Includes Reversible Pocket clip

2Not as good as I originally thought  Jul 01, 2010

I recently purchased the sog vulcan VL-01 and I love it. I own several other SOG knives along with many others from brands like Kershaw, spyderco, benchmade, and buck. The SOG Vulcan is my favorite out of all of these knives. Many reveiws say the VL-01 is to big to EDC, however I EDC mine and love it, it just depends on what kind of knifes you like. If you like bigger blades like I do then this knife is the perfect choice. It is similar in size to my kershaw storm II and I carried that knife for about 5 months. The Zytel handel on this knife is awsome, It is very finely checkered and makes for a grippy knife. So far the steel is great, it holds an edge great, I have not had to sharpen it yet so im not sure how it is to sharpen. Its nice to see SOG use a high quality steel, most of there knives use Aus steel, but they finally got it right by going with VG-10 for the Vulcan. Also with using the arc lock this knife opens just as fast as my SOG Flash II. If you are looking for a bigger sized tactical folding knife this is the knife to go with.
UPDATE: I have had problems with the pocket clip breaking, it is a fairly long pocket clip and is uncomfortable in the hand. I have had a problem with it snaging on stuff and breaking. Sog will replace these for free but I have had a problem with that too I have called back at least 4 times and still no pocket clip I have been waiting for around 3 months and it was supposed to take 2-4 weeks.

another update: I finally got my new pocket clip the other day and the next day it snaged on somthin when i was walking and it broke. For a hundred dollor knife this should not happen, I traded this knife for a spyderco, which in my mind is a much better brand. For less money you can get the spyderco manix 2 which is better in my opinion.

5Shock and awe!  May 29, 2009

This is one on the best knives to have, it's total quality and ease of opening, makes it great! Yes it is heavy and having a sheath would be perfect... This is a great choice to have this knife in anyone's pack. If you want a great folder that will never let you down this is it! Just buy a sheath for it to make it complete.

5Quality & Craftsmanship  May 13, 2010

Beautiful knife....I was lucky enough to purchase this from Amazon when price dropped to low $60's. Knife fit & finish is excellent, blade opens/closes very smoothly with a solid "click" (like any fine mechanism). You can quickly snap the blade open with index finger on the blade heel tab, or use your thumb on blade studs to control blade extraction (more fun snapping it open).

As previous reviewers mentioned, the knife is a bit large for typical "office" EDC. Even though my son's Boy Scout troop allows 3" blades, the blade can seem intimidating to people not use to knives. If you work in an outdoor setting, or in a trade where you're using tools daily, this won't be an issue, but for the general white collar office, I think it's a bit much (look at the excellent Spyderco Dragonfly, SOG Flash I or Kershaw Scallion for office use).

I carry this when I'm hiking/backing because the knife is really solid. Handle provides excellent non-slip grip and it's really EZ to open one-handed. I especially like the low-profile clip because I prefer pocket knives to be more subtle when carried. The clip allows the knive to sit deeper in your pocket with very little showing.

Interestingly, my blade might be a "second" because both sides are not ground exactly symmetrical (maybe that's why I got a great price). This doesn't affect the function of the blade, and it's not obvious when you look at my knife. All-in-all a beautiful knife, even if it's a bit bulky for EDC.

Looked at all the reviews on You Tube and decided to purchase. I really like smooth fold out, just flick your wrist and out it comes. I originally wanted to buy the VL-11 all black but it was like $45 more and its the same knife. Maybe when the price comes down I will get that one but for EDC you only need one.

Great SOG knive, very sharp and well made.
I carry this knive for protection, hopefully I will never have to use it.
