Decent small work knife Oct 29, 2009
By J. Henson
"Many Interests"
I like this little knife. It fits well in my hand. The "rubberized" handle of whatever the material is called, makes it fairly easy to hang on to. The knife is relatively inexpensive and hits a niche between the really cheap no-name brands that are of dubious quality and the higher quality brand name knives where the prices start around $35-$40 or more. While I wouldn't include it with old line brands like Buck, Gerber, Ka-Bar, etc. The Cold Steel knife is a sturdy tool that will stand up to common camping or woodcraft tasks. One advantage of having a sturdy knife that is relatively inexpensive, is that one isn't overly concerned with damaging the knife. The Roach Belly came with an acceptably sharp factory edge on the blade. A bit of additional dressing brought the blade to a keen edge. This is the type of knife I keep at hand to tackle pretty much any common task for which I need a sharp knife. Much along the lines of the 35+ year old Old Timer Sharp Finger that I've used for years. This Cold Steel Roach Belly is a good solid knife. The reason I did not rate this particular knife with 5 stars, is admittedly just a subjective assessment on the overall quality of the knife. I've collected knives for over 40 years with a primary focus on knives that I'd take into the woods and actually use. This knife comes at a good price that I'd be quite happy to take along hunting or camping any time.

You get what you pay for. Jan 01, 2011
By Bryan Drew I payed less then $10 for this blade and I would say that's a good deal. It has its down sides though, some are in my opinion a major issue in the activities that I use it for. The biggest complaint and I would even say warning, is the handle. If you are planning to use it in the field, such as dressing deer and other hunting activities, you might want to think about modifying the handle. It lacks grip (smooth wood grain plastic molding)and in wet conditions, such as blood, it can become dangerous with the increase loss of traction and grip. The other complaint is that its not a full tang, which in time will probably become an issue with heavy use. The blade came sharp, but after dressing one deer I had to hit it on my DMT Diafold in the field. If you are looking for something to throw in a hunting bag or in your truck bag for a back up hunting/skinning knife, not a bad deal for the money.

Good blade, Good price! Mar 06, 2010
By D. Godd This blade is SOLID! Feels awesome in hand, well balanced and its light as a feather. Seems to be made of good quality materials and it came RAZOR SHARP! This blade would be best used as a defensive weapon but i also think it would make a good everyday utility knife. This blade is worth the money, keeps up just fine with higher top notch blades in the $50 range. Sheath could use some work but good for the money. You will be happy with this one!

Excellent patch knife Feb 11, 2010
By Charles L. Marsh This knife is used for cutting patches when shooting round ball from a black powder rifle. It does the job very well. Good knife, excellent value. Also an authentic design.

Great utility knife for the money Sep 04, 2008
By Bill The single most satisfying characteristic of this knife is it's sharpness. It's not a strong, thick-spine knife like many of Cold Steel's offerings. However, it comes with an extremely sharp edge and the point is great for piercing through stuff.
The handle is made of some kind of (slightly slippery) plastic and this knife is not really made for hard use.
I think it would be great for cutting open boxes and plastic containers or something similar.
