Nikon Prostaff 65 mm Spotting Scope Sep 07, 2010

This is a well made spotting scope with good optics. I bought it for birdwatching and I am very impressed with it. A larger lens like their 82mm scope would no doubt collect more light and provide more usable magnification, but at the expense of increased wight and decreased usability. This has good sturdy Nikon construction and it's waterproof. It's expensive, but I was willing to pay for the quality. The image is sharp all the way to the edges from low to high magnification. I have not tried digiscoping.

Nikon Prostaff Spotting Scope 16-48x65 - Angled Dec 14, 2010
By Stefano After several hours spent searching for and reading spotting scope reviews, I purchased this Nikon which is in the "low" or "budget" price category for spotting scopes. My primary use is for target shooting so I have only used the 16 power setting at 25 yards thus far. At 16 power the targets are very clear and bright and all the bullet holes (.22 cal to .45 cal)are visible and very clear. One can easily determine that two bullets have almost gone through the same hole. The target sight adapter provided with the scope works well to easily identify the target downrange so as to be able to initially find the target when looking through the eyepiece of the scope - a definite advantage. For those who wear glasses the eye relief is just satisfactory but not great. There is an adjustment on the eyepiece for those who wear glasses. If the eye relief was better I would have rated the scope higher. The focus adjustment works satisfactorily and the scope comes with a relatively sturdy nylon cover with openings for the focus adjustment and the target sight. There are also snap-off covers for the objective lens and the eyepiece which can prevent these areas from being damaged during travel. As an aside I looked through a VORTEX scope that a shooter had in an adjacent port and the picture in that scope was not bright and was unacceptable in my opinion. Accordingly the price for that scope was about 60% or so of the price of the Nikon which just proves the old adage.
